It was an anonymous New York poem from 1821 that first introduced reindeer pulling a sleigh through the nighttime skies. Two years later in 1823 those reindeer would receive names: Dasher, Prancer, Donner, Blitzen, Comet, Cupid, Dancer and Vixen. Columbia University professor Clement Clarke Moore would later lay claim as the author of A Visit from St. Nicholas, also known as Twas the Night Before Christmas.
