Inwood: A New York neighborhood.

The northernmost neighborhood on Manhattan Island.

Not to be confused with the Inwood on Long Island, Manhattan’s Inwood is named for the metamorphic rock found in the area. The abundance of Inwood marble saw the area dotted with many quarries in the 17th and 18th centuries. Inwood remained a rural hinterland until the construction of the 1 train in the early 20th century.
