Coney Island Boardwalk looking toward Brighton Beach.Wood to make way for concrete and plastic on iconic Boardwalk.

A five block stretch of the 2.7 mile Coney Island Boardwalk will see wooden boards replaced by concrete and recycled plastic that will maintain the visual esthetic of wood. The $6.85 million project will be offset in part by the $1 million annual upkeep of the wooden boards. Officially known as the Riegelmann Boardwalk, the Coney Island Boardwalk has been open since 1923.
