Gwendolyn Brooks, immortalized on Library Walk, won a Pulitzer Prize for her 1949 collection of poems, Annie Allen. Ms Brooks became the first African-American to win a Pulitzer in any discipline. A lifelong teacher, Gwendolyn Brooks‘  New York experience included teaching creative writing at Columbia University and City University of New York.
