Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced plans to double New York City’s recycling efforts in his 2012 State of the City Address. Bloomberg’s updated plan aims to slash $50 million per year from the sanitation bill over the next five years with a vigorous residential recycling program and new composting sites in New York. The annual garbage bill for the city now stands at $300 million.
