Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor

The Statue of Liberty celebrates her 125th anniversary Oct. 28, 2011. There will be a celebration in New York and 125 immigrants will become U.S. citizens on Liberty Island. Around 23 million immigrants came to the United States between 1880 and 1920. The statue was a gift of friendship given by France to the United States in 1886, and she has come to symbolize freedom and the American Dream.
