Farmers' markets feed familiesFresh, farm produce available at Union Square and elsewhere.

On World Vegetarian Day it is good to remember that farmers feed cities. New York’s farmers’ market culture began in 1976 with a dozen farmers in a parking lot on 59th St. and 2nd Ave. Today, the Greenmarket consists of 53 markets throughout New York City with more than 230 family farms participating.
