Norwegian Gem sets sail for points south from New YorkThe Norwegian Gem at Pier 88 on the Hudson River sails the Carribbean.

In honor of Talk Like A Pirate Day we look back at pirates in New York. While the Norwegian Gem is not a pirate ship you may be surprised to hear that Captain Kidd moved to New York as a child in the 1650s and after marrying into money lived in a mansion on Pearl Street. Piracy in New York petered out by the 1720s. Today, the only pirates in New York are found on Broadway – The Pirates of Penzance.
